21 April 2021

Univ. Prof. Dr. med. Rafael Kramann and his team from the Institute of Experimental Internal Medicine and Systems Biology at RWTH Aachen University Hospital have achieved an important success in kidney and fibrosis research: Using state-of-the-art molecular biology methods, the scientists have deciphered the cellular basis of renal fibrosis. They were also able to identify the protein Nkd2 as a target for potential drug development. For this achievement, Prof. Kramann has been awarded the prestigious Theodor Frerichs Prize. The prize, which is endowed with 30,000 euros, is awarded by the German Society for Internal Medicine e. V. (DGIM) for the best clinical-experimental work presented in the field of internal medicine.
