Prof. Rafael Kramann honored with Franz Volhard Prize 2019

The highest prize in nephrology in Germany, the Franz Volhard Prize, was awarded in 2019 to Univ. Prof. Rafael Kramann, MD, Head of the Teaching and Research Department of Nephro-Cardiology at the University Hospital RWTH Aachen, by the German Society of Nephrology (DGfN) and PI in the SFB/TRR219. He received the award for his outstanding scientific achievements in the field of nephrology, focusing on the cellular origin and molecular regulation of organ scarring (so-called fibrosis) and arteriosclerosis with vascular calcification. Prof. Kramann shares the prize, which is endowed with a total of 10,000 euros, with Prof. Catherine Meyer-Schwesinger from Hamburg, and accepted it at the 11th annual meeting of the DGfN in Düsseldorf on October 10.


The Franz Volhard Award is intended to promote and honor outstanding scientists in the field of renal and hypertension diseases. It recognizes not only a single work, but rather the continuous engagement with a specific field of nephrology.
